Now Available! An Aroma of Life

What does it look like to follow Jesus in Yemen? From hospitals to living rooms, prison cells to mountain villages, An Aroma of Life takes readers into the heart of Yemen through the stories of struggle and hope of Yemeni Christians. Is God good when bullets shatter the peace of a morning drive to work? How does a Yemeni Christian model faith when family rejects them? Readers will be motivated to persevere through trials, filled with joy in hearing little-known stories of God at work in remote places, and will be inspired by examples of Yemeni Christians loving and serving their nation.

Methodological Approach

In developing An Aroma of Life, Daniel al-Yamini employed an oral history and narrative methodology rooted in direct engagement with Yemeni believers. Every individual featured in the book—and many others whose accounts were not included—was personally interviewed by the author. A central criterion for participation was that all interviewees were living in community within Yemen at the time of the research and shared a commitment to continue doing so. While others connected to this network resided abroad, the focus of this initial study remained on those who continued to serve faithfully within Yemen.

Each conversation was recorded, transcribed, and then shaped into a cohesive narrative while preserving the authenticity of the speaker’s voice. In this sense, the book was, in many ways, written by the Yemenis themselves: participants determined what aspects of their stories they wished to share and how those experiences should be represented. Upon completion, each contributor reviewed and approved their narrative, affirming that their story remained their own and was shared with full consent and acknowledgment.

This approach ensured that An Aroma of Life reflects not only theological and historical insight but also the integrity, agency, and lived witness of the Yemeni Christian community.

It is important to note that this network of Yemeni churches does not represent all Yemeni Christians, nor every expression or network of faith communities within Yemen. The perspectives shared in this volume arise from a particular network of believers who graciously contributed their stories. An Aroma of Life, therefore, does not claim to speak on behalf of all Yemeni Christians—either within the country or globally—but seeks to honor their voices and bear witness to one part of the broader story of God’s work in Yemen.

Endorsements:

"Not since Harry Potter have I found a book I simply couldn’t put down. But WOW-- this one broke that streak! What makes it even more powerful is that it’s not fiction—it’s a riveting true story. You’ll come away moved, inspired, and encouraged, with a renewed determination to live boldly for Christ, whatever the cost. A must-read!"

“An Aroma of Life is a historic and timely account of the quiet courage and resilient faith of Yemeni believers. Daniel al-Yamini sheds light on a Church that the world has largely overlooked—yet one that stands as a testimony of God’s enduring faithfulness. As someone who personally witnessed the recognition of the Yemeni Christian Alliance and have observed its appearance over many years, I believe this book captures a crucial moment in global Church history.”

“Two of the most inspiring Christians I have met live in Yemen. Before I met them, I believed that there were no Christians in Yemen. How wrong I was! Not only are there Christians in Yemen, but they are some of the strongest believers - confident to face persecution and to share their faith without fear. Jesus has set them free and they are free despite the many restrictions they face. Be blessed by this book. May the stories of these believers inspire your faith and help you to share your faith without fear.”
